Not sure I can speak for Ken. In retrospect he may be talking about working the subject and working it as separate shots. But since you asked....
The foreground shoreline makes the entire scene look askew, to me. I would crop it totally out. I would crop out the sky down to a level a little more than halfway between the top edge and the large green tree that is present on the right. You'll end up with panorama-style shot, but it feels more balance and refined to me. I posted the suggested crop here, if you'll forgive me.
