I have both and although I've never compared their performance side-by-side, I prefer the KX. I know Pentax made a big fuss about the small size of the ME/MX when they were released but I find the larger KX more comfortable to hold and use - it feels more substantial (probably because it is....) I also prefer the match needle metering indicator to the LEDs in the MX. Having said that, apparently the meter in the KX is difficult to repair if it falls over (mine's fine, for now). You'll probably find it easier to find an MX - the K series (apart from the K1000) were only available for about a year and are more scarce.
