They couldn't care less about anybody ctually in the know, the want to impress their friends and family who, by and large, don't know shit about cameras and don't care. The big black DSLR is impressive to them even with the wee kit zoom.
You'd be shocked how often I get asked if I'm a pro, just because of my (rather small) K100D and 16-45 DA zoom which is my standard carry config. -Adam J. C.
