I'm not sure what your concern is and what "converting PEFs" will tell you.
Pentax Photo Browser/Lab is as slow as glaciers snoozing. If your computer can handle processing *ist D/DS/DL RAW files, it will also work fine for K10D RAW files, either PEF or DNG format in whatever tools you enjoy using that can digest them. Any difference in speed is insignificant unless you're processing 100 RAW files at a time.
