And I just ordered a couple Transcend cards...

The camera does a good job of notifying the user of this - but just in 
case, the card wasn't accidentally locked by any chance?  Was there any 
error message?

Carrying an extra card is a good idea - but then, you _were_ carrying 
two cards.
