I've been wondering why some of the photos I processed with Lightroom  
seemed dull and needed sprucing up on contrast and saturation when I  
went to print them or looked at them in Photoshop.

Suddenly, it came to me: I was editing in Lightroom's default black  
and gray backgrounds. My print mattes and web page surrounds are  
always white. I changed the Lightroom default to white and, bingo!  
Exported photos looked at in Photoshop now look right again.

A small thing, but it points out the huge importance of the  
surrounding environment when you're editing a photograph...
