The autobracketing has nothing to do with AF - it is for different
aperture/shutter settings.  You set it by pressing the button on the
back near the mode dial.  It can be set to shoot 3 or 5 bracketed
frames.  You should be able to firmly press and hold the shutter down
without another frame firing unless you have autobracket on or
continuous drive mode on.

I can't fathom it being a too light shutter unless you literally
bounce your finger on it.

Check your drive mode (fn button) and the auto bracket.  Either would
be a plausible explanation to your issue.  Certainly first just try
firmly pressing and holding the shutter button.  You should only get
one exposure from that, unless one of the other two things is turned
on.
