To me, the only truly useful way to go to a larger sensor will be to
move up to the 645D class sensor size.

I've seen gallery print results from plenty of Canon 1DsII cameras
and I don't see anything that impresses me as substantially different
from what I'm getting with the Sony R1 or K10D at sizes up to A3
Super and, stretching that, to 16x20 inch. Fact is that several of
the folks shooting with those cameras have looked at my 6Mpixel *ist
DS prints at the gallery and commented as to how come they weren't
getting that kind of print quality.

I have no doubt that more 24x36mm sensor cameras will be made by
someone. Sony has a chip fab and owns a line of 35mm lenses, they can
do what they want. I haven't heard people here screaming how much
better the A100 is compared to the K10D.

I don't believe, from what I see today, that I will find them to be
any significant advantage, and I believe that legacy 35mm lenses will
have all the issues that have been discussed over and over again, as
we see today with the 24x36 DSLRs from Canon.

I'll refrain from further comments on this topic. It's a waste of
time as there seem to be religious desires to preserve 35mm format
and antique lenses for their own sake. I personally would rather see
a 3:4 proportion format camera, with a sensor about 18x24mm or
21x28mm in size, with 10-12 Mpixels and lenses optimized for it. It
would make better sense and most likely produce better quality.
