My experience with NiMH, also relates to the total time since the batteries 
were charged.
During my last trip to Denali, I would get around 1000 shots on a battery 
charge. Those shots were taken in a 2 to 3 day span of time.
I can put the same batteries, freshly charged, in my D, let it sit for 
several weeks & only get a few hundred shots til they need recharge.
This experience seems pretty logical to me but I don't see anyone taking 
this into account when they relate battery life experiences.
