There's no reason to, but then there's Contax, Leica, Olympus, Minolta, 
Mamiya (maybe)... none of them took deliberate missteps but they are either 
huting or non-existent because of them.  In the future Hoya Pentax will do 
as all businesses do, try to maximize profit, either by decreasing costs and 
increasing sales or by cutting losses and focussing on the more profitable 
parts of the business. Who knows how this will play out?

For now, Pentax may have access to capital and relatively cheap glass.
