Hi Mike,
Quite a challenging task for a wanderer, isn't it?
Getting myself sedentary lately, I turned towards more elderly
occupations like going to the botanic garden to photograph roses and
cactuses... ;o)
Well, cactuses were in dim light inside the green house, so a film
with good saturation like Agfa HDC and a tripod proved adequate for
the job. However, when I got out to the roses, the direct sunlight
was so harsh that I figured none of the films I had in the bag will
handle it. So I switched to black and white and put a red filter 4x
on the lens. Still waiting for the results...
BTW, I wouldn't bother carrying any flash. Direct flash light is
hardly predictable and is likely to throw deep, blocked shadows. You
may want to try however to discharge the flash against a matte
reflector (any white paper will do) to emulate natural lighting from
a window. Good luck!
