You know, I must be the luckiest guy on the face of the Earth, at least
with respect to process color control, or I have /really/ lax standards,
severe color blindness, an incredible ability to adapt the perceived
image to match the remembered image, or something.

I do /nothing/ particularly special, and I have no problem getting
prints that are, to my eye, virtually identical to the view I have on
the screen in Photoshop. I've seen metamerism, but only on certain
combinations of ink and paper, so I avoid those.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 955DF (19" CRT) running at 1600 x 1200 @ 70
Hz, driven by a board based on the nVidia GeForce 6600 GT with 256 MB of
video memory. I "calibrate" it with Adobe Gamma. I print on an Epson
Stylus Photo 820 that I've been banging on for at least three years. I
only use Epson inks; papers are Ilford Galerie or Epson Premium Photo.
I run the ICC profile from the Epson web site about three years ago, and
print settings as recommended by Epson for their papers or Ilford for
theirs. I never edit or preview photos on a "cold" monitor. I work in
a generally lit to maybe half the monitor's brightness by GE Reveal
bulbs and a slight amount of flourescent light leaking in from downstairs.

I typically work in sRGB color space, though I've used AdobeRGB and ?Pro
Photo RGB?. I have Photoshop set to use all of the appropriate profiles
(embedded, monitor, and printer).
