The R320 is an older model in the R300 series, I've owned one for almost
a year. Excellent printer with superb output and it takes the same carts
as the R220. It's the same print engine as the R200's, but with more
features (card reader, LCD). The replacement for the R220 is the R260.

The 1400 is definitely a 1280 replacement. It's really a wide-format
version of the R260/R380, using the same ink tech (but different
cartridges).

Note you cannot get 3rd party inks for Claria-based printers currently.
The older R printers do have 3rd party ink options (like MIS' B&W inksets).

I'd avoid that particular Canon. It's a 4-ink printer and will not
produce as good output as the 6 ink photo printers (or the newer 8-12
ink wide format printers). If I was going to look at a Canon, it would
be the new Pro9500 with the 10 pigment ink setup, including support for
matte and photo black carts at the same time (the big weakness of the
Epson R2400). Canon doesn't currently offer an A4 version of their
pigmnt-based photo printers.
