I have only done a few informal test of alk vs. the
NIMH in flashes
and the performace is very noticable, the alkaline
batteries will
recharge the flash faster for 20 full power flashes
then they take
longer and longer, the NIMH kept consistanly 4-5 sec
recharging right
up untill they died. I know you should not use
rechargables in long
term slow/low use stuff like smoke alarms, remotes,
light meters. For
me I will keep alkalines in the Fg due to the fact
rechargables loose
their charge about a 2 weeks of non use. For flashes
since they eat
batteries having the 1 hr recharger and car charger I
always have
fresh batteries, that and I notice that some alkaline
batteries just
plain suck in flashes. Most long lasting alks are slow
charging but
last almost forever, most photo grade alk's recharge
faster but don't
last long or are as expensive as lithiums. Flashes
since they eat
batteries rechargables are cost effective, I went thru
12 AA batteries
in one night and they still powered a remote after but
won't charge
the flash, with me using 10 rolls of flash work every
weekend the
cost of even cheap AA's gets outrageous since I needed
to swap
alkalines every other roll to keep rcharge times up,
the NIMH lasts
almost the whole night.
