You might have inadvertently slid the lock tab on the card.

Which Sandisk reader are you using? I've been using the Sandisk  
ImageMate 12-in-1 USB 2.0 reader since Spring 2006. It's been  
extremely reliable for CF, SD and Memory Stick media. But there's  
always the possibility that whatever one you have could have a  
fault ... almost always the cable is the first suspect.

(I downloaded and installed the fw update last evening too. I was  
quite surprised to see that it preserved all my settings! Bravo,  
Pentax!)
