By chance I took a look at B&H's page on the Pentax 1.4x-L teleconverter 
today. There's a list of compatible lenses, but several are marked as 
"Fits, but better performance can be achieved with other versions." I 
assume these are lenses that would work better with the 1.4x-S converter.

I was surprised to see the A* 400 f2.8, F* 600 f4, and A* 600 f 5.6 on 
this list.  Oddly, the FA* 600 f4 is not so noted.

I mostly use the 1.7x AF adapter with my A* 400, but bought the 'L' TC's 
for use with it. Any thoughts on whether the S is really better with 
some of the long glass?
