Agree. Unfortunately though, we are under complete mercy of mfrs. They will continue to drag on maintaining the price (or in a form of megapixel war etc) as long as possible until a price destroyer appears. Some of today's high end P&S are really sufficient for everyday use, and no need to buy DigiRebel with a kit lens or two if that all one does (and use it as a heavier/bulkier version of P&S). But makers are instigating mass market to graduate from P&S to DSLR as if DSLRs are real cameras. For true enthusiasts, DSLRs are necessity, but the majority of today's DSLR market is entry level.
