In the context of Pentax camera equipment, newer lenses benefit from technical advances in optical design and glass formulations. I haven't done any objective testing (the swimming pools around here are frozen over) of the DA lenses that I own vs. the K/A/FA lenses that I own in similar focal lengths, but my objective opinion is that the newer lenses are working better on digital than their older counterparts.
