My aged neurons are coming up with the suggestion that while the
official one millionth car probably made it into the corporate
museum there were some number of other vehicles made at around
the same time which were offered for sale to the public.

A quick Google search comes up with some evidence to support this;
there was a special run of 350 commemorative vehicles, called the
Minor Million.  At least one (registration 1MLL) was still running
in 2001, and took part in the (London) Lord Mayor's parade.
The official name for the colour of that car is "lilac", which
wasn't a colour normally available on the Minor.
