Hi Phil,
Depends a lot on what you're doing, of course. Do you really want to count
photons? If that's the case, maybe a CCD detector (not a digital camera)
would be better for certain scientific applications. Technical Pan 2415 is
great stuff -- extremely fine grain (nice for imaging applications), and
panchromatic response (nice for applications requiring red sensitivity, like
certain visible-light spectroscopic experiments). It's a popular emulsion
for astrophotography applications.
Maybe you can give us a few details of the kind of experiment you had in
mind?
