Speaking of B&W conversion, I'm sure you've already found lots of
great stuff in internet, the site I liked the most is this one:

I found the article "Channel mixer settings to imitate film
reproduction" interesting, not really sure how real this settings are
compared to film, but I use them as starting point, for example for
this PESO, I started with the "tri-x" settings and went from there.

Also enjoyed some of Petteri Sulonen's tutorials and some of
Northlight Images articles on the topic.

Not really related to this particular image but ironically what really
got me thinking on B&W conversion was a B&W film book that deals
mostly with B&W examples on how to use dodge&burn techniques, which in
the end can also be done on PS. The book was "Mastering Black & White
Photography : A Unique Case Study Approach to Achieving Professional
Results" by John Garrett
