I dont follow that, the uniqueness of the
trinitron was it was a one gun system for
color which usually used three guns. A one
gun monochrome CRT was already standard.
Can you elusidate further?

Trinitron was based on RCA patents for a superior B&W set.  RCA of 
course didn't see any need to have a better set and sold them to Sony.
