Could indeed be interesting. But my money is on one of the "four thirds" cameras. Although both the pro and anti Foveon zealots find it much more exciting to debate technology and engage in pixel peeping, economics plays a large role in these things. One of the issues with the Foveon sensor is that their three-layers-per-pixel design makes the sensor more expensive to produce for a given area and/or given pixel count. That's why they've limited themselves to a 1.7 crop factor so far (and engaged in their silly x3 pixel counting scheme). With a 4/3 camera, they could actually build a smaller chip than what they're making now. With anyone else they'd most likely have to tool up for APS-C sensors and even more additional expense. Which is certainly not impossible, but they'd have an easier time going to the smaller 4/3 format. And the 4/3 camera makers look quite in need of something to market against the increasing pixel counts (and upcoming larger sensors) of the competition. It's a good match of needs and capabilities. -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
