The amount of information that wide lens captures is way more than that of tele lens. Consider smaller details. Thus, even the slightest motion of the lens during exposure will give you the picture that only looks sharp. Even with slightest enlargement you will see it is not really sharp. Thus, I think Godfrey said what he said. Or at least this is how I understood him. In fact, I most definitely agree with Shel - the more support you can get - the better it is.
