Yes, cameras rarely meet the card's maximum rated speed. I've also never found a reader that permitted the maximum rated read speed either.
That's been true forever. On this chart, which BTW only shows up to 2G capacity Extreme III not the 4G Extreme III SDHC, the Extreme III are the fastest.
