The important thing is, will he heal in time for the triathlon? I am not joking - for a competitor that is the important thing. 20 years ago I had a crash about 8 weeks before a major endurance- cycling event I had been preparing for for two years. Nothing as major as your colleague's crash, but significant bruising, broken helmet, etc. My first thought as I lay in the road was "how long is this going to take to heal?" My second thought was "I had better get out of the damn road!"
