At one point I did enable 'automatic XMP' updates and I experienced quite slow responses, perhaps mostly due to 'touching' DNG's that had been changed before and got the XMP info updated but quite annoying anyway. However, I guess it does mean that I need to 'export' DNG's if I want to use them elsewhere and retain any settings right ? Have you done that sofar, or are you just using that single system ? Just copying the DNG from the filesystem woyld be the version as original imported by Lightroom I guess (converted from camera PEF).
