Frank, you need a "fast" 50mm or 35mm equivalent.  Say a 24mm or 35mm 
f2.0.  The M 35mm is a lovely match for the *ist-D and "feels" much like 
a 50 f1.7 does the MX.  It would be perfect if it weren't for the lack 
of aperture information being communicated from lens to body.  I haven't 
actually used an A 35 f2.0 but I think that would be close to perfect, 
if I could get on for not too much money.  The FA 24 f2.0 would fit be 
bill as a fast ~35mm except is seems to be a bit of beast next to the 
diminutive M 35.
