Selling via the internet, whether off a mailing list or an online seller is a leap of faith for one party or the other. You can use an escrow service, I suppose, but that adds to the cost and inconvenience, and still isn't a guarantee that the transaction will be smooth. All you can really do is hope that you are dealing with an honest person and that things will work out.
