similar things happen in this country, but not always to the scammers'
advantage. My gas supply was switched without my authorisation several
years ago, but for some reason I stopped receiving bills addressed to
me, although some did arrive addressed to a woman I didn't know and
who to my knowledge has never lived here. Eventually the gas supplier
tried to collect on a bill that was close to £1000-. Naturally I
refused to pay - if someone chooses to supply me with free gas that's
up to them. After several increasingly irate calls from their credit
controllers, including offers for me to pay only 50%, I told them I
would pay in full if and only if they could produce a contract to
supply which contained my signature. A few weeks later I received a
letter saying that they had written off the charges. During this
period I also searched the internet to see if other people had had
similar problems, and there pages full of it.

I get my gas supply from the PDML now.
