The following may be a point of interest to some on this group...

I recently sent a Pentax lx to Colorado for repair and CLA. The major
problem that I was aware of .... I was unable to remove the finder...the
finder release was not operable.

I mailed the Camera on 9/4. By 10/17 I had the Camera back. This time
line was reasonable since the mailing from Alaska is 5 to 7 days, and the
procedure is....upon their receipt of the camera they evaluate the needed
repair and mail you an estimate of the cost....then wait until they receive
your approval to do the needed work (when done through the mail this
requires three consecutive mailings before they have a approval to complete
the work (~20 days consumed by mailings). The actual turn-around of the
work was in the order of 3 weeks. I was pleased with this time line.

Also, Pentax has an online system that allows you to track the work flow
from the time Pentax makes an estimate of the cost and posts it at their web
site. When you receive the mailed estimate of the required work you also
receive a work order number and a password to access the work progress of
your camera. When the work is complete and they mail the camera using UPS
they provide the tracking number on their site, thus you can monitor the
return of the item (important to me since Alaska is a looong way from
Colorado). The pentax site http://www.pentax.com/service/. Pentax is
upgrading the site to reduce the needed mail time.

As to the reasonable cost of the work. It turned out that not only was the
prism problem corrected, and a complete CLA performed, but a new shutter
curtain was installed. The total cost $215.

I now have a new-old Pentax lx (grin), that I am taking pics with (grin). I
hope this assists someone.... and I seem unable to stop grinning

For all this is worth...have a nice day
