I don't fully understand your description of the problem. If the files
are shown greyed out it probably means the library has an entry for
the photo, but it can't match it to the corresponding file on your
disk. Have you renamed your files or folders, or remapped the drives
outside of Lightroom since you last used Lightroom?

To make it find missing files and folders, right click on a folder
name. From the menu choose Check for Missing Photos and Folders.
Lightroom looks for the files which correspond with the entries marked
as missing, and recreates the link.

Or you could try opening the file from Lightroom - it prompts you if
it can't find the matching file. You can then use a standard File Open
dialogue to tell it which file to link to the Library entry.
