When I was in NC with a girlfriend a few years ago we couldn't find
anywhere in the town to get a drink. We asked people and they looked
at us like we were lunatics. We had to ask several people before
someone could point us in the direction of a bar, which was crap. We
eventually discovered that if you wanted to go to something like a
decent pub you had to drive about 20 miles. Even then it wasn't my
kind of place at all - I kept expecting Burt Reynolds to come in.

On the other hand, there was no shortage of people asking us which
church we went to, recommending theirs, and looking somewhat aghast
when I said I didn't, and my gf told them she went to the mosque.
