I picked up a D-FA 100 macro a few months ago, mostly to replace the Kiron 105mm f2.8, which suffers from pretty bad CA on the K10D.
Haven't run it through any rigorous tests - but it seems to be fine. Ergonomics are great - the manual focus grip is large and the AF/MF focus clutch works great. Optically it seems tack sharp, but I've only shot a couple of dozen test shots with it. Nonetheless, I doubt that the Kiron will see much use in the future. I was unaware (till reading this thread) that the D-FA design means that the lens can be used on a film bodies. I did wonder why they bothered to include an aperture ring on this lens - now I know. Heck - it will work on my Mz-S! The only knocks I'd give the lens is the over-sized lens hood. The lens hood seems like a great idea but it attaches _behind_ the part of the lens that extends when you focus close. The result is that the hood does not move, but at the minimum focusing distance the front element is only recessed about half an inch behind the hood, which makes the hood basically ineffective for flare control or for protection of the front element. I'd rather see a smaller hood that mounts on the front of the lens. (Since I have a hood that does just that - no problem!) WRT to rebate program - I purchased 3 items covered by the rebates (1 flash, 2 lenses) and all three rebates came through without a hitch. - MCC cbwaters wrote: > How is the DA 100 macro? > > Do you think the rebates will really end at the end of July? > > Cory > feeding the obsession > > -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Mark Cassino Photography Kalamazoo, Michigan www.markcassino.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net
