Bill, The difference between a pigment and a dye is one lays down semi-solid particles of colors that stick to the surface of the paper and the other is a dye that soaks into the paper and stains it.

My epson is the 1270, which is a dye printer--I get good results with Colorlife, Premium Semi-gloss, Premium Glossy Photo.
