I'm not familiar with the HP 6940/80. But I have an HP 7960 .. it and  
the follow-on 8450 model prove to be very competent photographic  
printers. The HP software is pretty funky, however, and for best  
results you're limited to HP papers (of which there are not many  
decent surfaces and they cost a bit..).
