Soft delicate stuff there. Best thing is a soft clean brush like artists use, 
and a bower bulb. 

I would stick to distilled water as a cleaning agent if it is so bad you have 
to dampen it, the pads you mentioned should be safe if rubbed with very very 
lightly. 

Only as a last resort would I add a few drops of ethanol to a cap full of the 
distilled water.
