I never said art shouldn't be hard, but particle physicists probably
don't do physics for show. I've never known any, but I've known a few
mathematicians who do some theoretical stuff that's maybe understood by
a few dozen other mathematicians. I guess if you're doing photography
for other photographers, that's fine. Quite a few college text books
are written by professors for professors.

Likewise, I know nothing about the engineering that goes into designing
a new car. But I can appreciate that it's a car and that I can get into
it and drive it from my house to the grocery store. And if it's a fast
car, I can appreciate the winding roads in the mountains not too far
from here. On the other hand, if the cosmetics of the body are butt
ugly I probably wouldn't even consider a test drive.

I can also look at a photograph by St. Ansel and decide if I want to
hang it on my wall. And though I like the photograph, I may not be able
to tell you why. I seriously doubt Mr. Adams would have cared if I
picked his photograph apart before deciding if it was wall-worthy.
Should that detract from the work he put into it?

But hey, if you want to put a horse fetus in a jar full of piss, call it
art, and hang your fine arts degree over it, have at it. :)
