Actually I had a similar experience many years ago. When I still had my Nikon F801s, I discovered the Tamron SP 35-105/2.8 had similar problem. When the body sensor indicated it was in focus, the viewfinder image was slightly blurred. When the viewfinder image was sharp, the sensor indicated it wasn't in focus. Since my other Nikkor AF lenses didn't have this problem, it must be the Tamron lens. I have never figured out what the cause was though. :(
