If you're shooting ISO 100 then by the sunny 16 rule and f/8 and be there, you'll be working outdoors at 1/500 at f/8 down to about 1/125 at f/8. On a slightly overcast day you have plenty of room for manoeuvre unless you want the lens faster than about 2.8. Cartier-Bresson managed alright shooting ISO 125 film mostly.
