Ugh, sounds like the orientation sensor has been schnockered.

Try taking the battery out and leaving it sit for two-three days.  
These cameras have a capacitor to hold settings while you're charging  
or changing batteries, you have to give that capacitor time to be  
exhausted for the camera to re-set to all defaults unless you have  
access to the internal service routines.

Otherwise a trip to Pentax service would seem to be in order if you  
want it to work. I don't believe there is anything user-serviceable  
about the orientation sensor.
