Another email that got lost when the gremlins
unsubscribed me, was about my new (old) lens.

I went to one of the two local camera shops looking
for lenses. I know that the other does wonderful
processing, but has no second-hand gear. Well, turned
out this one had no second-hand gear either, but the
guy suggested Cash Converters (Criminal Central). I
was rather dubious as I had been to CC in other towns,
and nothing remotely Pentax. But I thought it
couldn't hurt to try.

So I went there and asked the sales assistant if there
were any Pentax lenses in the cabinet, they had them
positioned in such a way that it was impossible to
tell. So she started pulling all these lenses out of
the cabinet. "Here, this one's Pentax", she said.
OK, since when does Hanimex=Pentax? The thread wasn't
even the right diameter. After pulling out a few more
which she insisted were Pentax, but surprisingly
weren't, I was astonished to discover that the next
few she handed me were actually Pentaxes.

There were three of them, all M lenses, M55:f2 or f4 I
think, M50:f4 and the one I finally chose M50:f1.7.
It is in pretty darn good condition too, complete with
Zenith Tempest 1A skylight. It cost me NZ$69
(~US$50). I am quite happy with it. I keep
nostalgically fantasising about the M50:f1.4 on my
Spotmatic, but then again, how much difference really
between f1.4 and f1.7? I love these M lenses though.
They just seem to have that nice feel to them, lovely
to hold, lovely to focus.
