metz sca stuff will do anything dedicated it is able of,
at least in my experience. it is not always as capable
as we would like it to be, though...

some discussion is also at
http://www.jr-worldwi.de/photo/ist_DS_internalflash.html
and in the pentax forum on photo.net and at the end of

just tried myself with k10d and 40mz-2 + sca 3701,
ct-4 + sca 374/2 af and ct-4 + sca 372.

with 40mz-2 + sca 3701, flash on A, aperture set on camera
(automatically in hyp mode, both fully auto and hyp-shifted)
even though it cannot do p-ttl and the k10d does not ttl,
it does pass iso, aperture, and focal length (zooms flash head).
it tells the camera the flash is ready, and reports result
(flash symbol in view finder flashes after correct exposure).
does 2nd curtain sync.
this seems pretty ok from an ease of operation POV.
the only way to do flash exposure compenstion seems
to be by manually overriding e.g. aperture setting on the 40mz-2
(flash exposure on camera is not passed on it seems, not now)

[hmm. also exist sca 3702, and 3702 m2, don't know the differnce]

with the ct-4 + sca 374/2 af loss of ttl flash has bigger impact,
becaue it does not pass aperture or iso,
so you have to set these on the flash as well as on the camera.
flash readyness and exposure result is passed,
and AF helplight on the adapter switches on when focussing
(but only in AF.S mode, not in AF.C mode).
does 2nd curtain sync.

ct-4 + sca 372 passes flash readyness + result.

don't know what to call that... semi-dedicated sounds fair -
it does what it is capable of, but cannot deal with all
features of the camera - too old for that.
loss of ttl is a major pain, esp. for the older models
where it surely affects ease of operation.
