To the original question:
Nikon mount is 1mm deeper than Pentax mount. The bayonet mountings
are similar. This makes it very hard to adapt lens from Pentax to
Nikon ... you can't get infinity focus unless you modify the pentax
lens to accommodate the thicker register and take a Nikon mount.
Lenses can go the other way a hair more easily: you can almost mount
a Nikon lens onto a Pentax body, but it doesn't latch in fully, there
may be mechanical clearance problems, and focus will go beyond
infinity. It's still not a viable proposition without modifying the
lens' mount, really.

See http://www.a1.nl/phomepag/markerink/mounts.htm for a listing of
lens mount registers.

4/3 Mount:
4/3 System Mount has the shortest register of any SLR mount today ...
38mm. The only ones I can think of that were thinner are the Olympus
Pen F half frame SLR and Alpa mount. For that reason it is very
adaptable, one of the reasons I was interested in the 4/3 System.

There are adapters available for Olympus OM, Pentax K, Pentax M42,
Nikon, Leica R, Leica Visoflex, Contax/Zeiss, Minolta MD/MC, Exacta,
Topcon and T-mount lenses. About the only major mounts that there
aren't any adapters for are Canon EOS and Canon FL/FD lenses.

I did a page of lens sizes with and without lens hood for some folks
on the Panasonic forum ...

... but here are some individual snaps of the camera fitted with a
few non-4/3 System lenses:

Sorry, I don't have a photo of the L1 fitted with the Nikkor
180/2.8AI, Pentax A50/2.8 Macro or FA43/1.9 Limited at present.
