Out of curiosity, did Pentax refuse to replace it prior to your complaining
on dpReview?

No. I was planning just to send it back to B&H. I already had their 
return authorization. It hadn't occurred to me that Pentax USA might 
have extra stock sitting around, when the lens was so scarce at 
retailers. (This was in August.) I was feeling pretty frustrated--had 
waited months for the lens to appear, had read glowing early reports, 
had seen other reports that no more would be available for several 
weeks. So I posted on dpreview to vent. Ned Bunnell of Pentax USA saw 
the post and took the initiative to contact me. I appreciated that. When 
the lens arrived, I made sure to post some nice words on dpreview about 
the resolution.
