It's certainly useful to have one in cases where
you don't have the negatives. Recently, a friend I
grew up with turned 30, and for her birthday I
found old pictures of us together, scanned them,
and printed them on my HP Deskjet 970 Cxi, with
HP's matte inkjet paper. The prints weren't quite
photo quality, but they were pretty close, and my
friend was very happy. :)
