I don't know if in this situation you can really call the upgrades 
"behind" or "ahead".  Office:mac:2001, as it is called by MS, while it 
retains all of Office's functionality, looks not really much at all like 
it's Win counterpart.  Apparently, the major changes were in 
interface -- making it closer to the Mac standard, with menus, button 
bars, etc, in the places they would normally be in a Mac program.
