The thing that's different is what makes the news, and what is different is the bad behaviour, the violence, the sporting excellence, the natural disaster, and the occasional act of goodness that goes beyond the normal background goodness. I do, however, agree with you that the celebrity stuff should not be on the news. Unless there were a mass public execution of them.
