G'day All, As we all know one of the minor bad points of this lens, compared to the F* version, is it's lack of tripod mounting collar .
I'm a bit of a tinkerer, and I've roughly sketched up a collar design with a thought to making one when I have some time. However, I was recently doing some wandering around eBay when I noticed several cheap tripod mount collars for use with various Canon lenses: <http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Tripod-Mount-Ring-for-Canon-70-200mm-300-400mm-Lens-L7G_W0QQitemZ130167704305QQihZ003QQcategoryZ29982QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem> <http://preview.tinyurl.com/2bueks> These units seem to lack the ability to rotate the lens from portrait to landscape within the ring. Not really what I wanted. This got me Googling though, & I found some info on the genuine Canon Tripod Mount Ring A II, for use with the EF 70-200 IS f4L , which has this function: <http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Reviews/Canon-Tripod-Mount-Ring-A-II-Review.aspx> <http://preview.tinyurl.com/2gbbyx> Now from what I've managed to find, the inside diameter of this ring is ~66mm. As luck would have it, the outside diameter of the FA* 300mm f4.5 barrel is 66mm (Although the lens name plate does project out a couple of millimetres) So my question: Has anyone here ever tried to use these two pieces of kit together? Can any of our Canon owners confirm that it actually works as described.
