A 3.3 megapixel camera will produce a file adequate for an 8x10 inch photo printed at 133 line screen. Any pixelization you may have seen in newspapers and magazines was probably because the image was severly cropped, and didn't have the benefit of the full original file size. I do a monthly 8x10 photo portrait of selected employees for my work, and the little 9 mb file from my cheap 3.3 mp camera makes beautiful prints. Many PJ photographers use 3+ mp cameras, and their digital photos are published regularly.
